A very groovy day in the studio

What a productive day of paper marbling, block printing and prepping for tomorrow's self portrait project.  I'll let the pictures tell the story...

An artist must be flexible...

Today started off with great expectations of swirling colors and wild pop art designs, as we were supposed to do our marbleized paper.  Unfortunately, the paint did not settle properly (because Mrs. Hannon shook it too much this morning,) so we needed to postpone until tomorrow.  Our artists, ever flexible, jumped right into block printing, and we could not believe how much they accomplished in a short amount of time.  Not only did they design their plates, but the transferred them onto the block, learned how to use all of the different blades and even "pull" a few artist's proofs.  The proof is like a practice print, where the artist sees if everything was cut properly and it allows him to tweak the plate before using good printing paper.  Tomorrow the artists will marble paper and create a series of finished prints, in different color combinations and techniques.

First week artists were as good as GOLD

We kicked off our art camp today with three talented artists, seen here "illuminating" their initial in gold leaf.  We also had a good time with the self portrait photo shoot, which struck some fun and glamourous poses.

On Friday of each week, we would like to invite everyone to a gallery showing of the week's completed work.  Feel free to extend the invitation to grandparents, siblings and friends, from 12-1pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Getting ready for our first Summer Art Camp

Supplies have been delivered and the studio has been cleaned... we are also having a lot of fun creating the samples for the demos.  Mr Hannon is especially excited about the marble paper project.

To help you prepare for camp (if you are in the morning session,) be thinking about what you would like your self portrait to say about you.  Cut out or print portrait poses that you like, so we can set up a similar shot for you.  You may also bring scraps for the portrait collage.  Anything can be attached, like music lyrics, fabric, candy wrappers, dried flowers, small metal parts, etc. but the finished painting is an 8 x 10 inch canvas, so make sure the size will fit. We will also have some great scraps, but it would be nice to have some personal items too.  Here are some fantastic artist examples:
